Garage, shed, gate and outbuilding locks
All advice guidesGarage door locks
Say what type of door you have, whether the key turns and whether the door can open. A replacement lock must suit the existing arrangement; it isn’t automatically the same job as changing the cylinder in a house door.
There is no published one-price garage replacement here because the door and fitting matter. I can discuss the lock work without promising to repair every garage-door panel, motor or lifting mechanism.
Sheds, gates and outbuildings
The padlock is only one part of a hasp-and-staple arrangement. The fitting and the material it is secured to also need consideration. Describe the whole problem, including damaged timber, loose hardware or a gate that no longer lines up.
For a farm building, explain how it is used and who needs access. I won’t assume every outbuilding needs the same hardware or make claims about agricultural security systems beyond the lock work.
Weather and stiff locks
Tell me if a lock has gradually become harder to use or started catching after a change in the door or gate. Its condition and manufacturer guidance determine suitable care. Don’t force a key or apply a treatment just because it worked on another lock.

Shed lock repair in Uttoxeter: padlock and fitting replaced
A real job from my records, start to finish. No names or addresses; the price is what the customer paid.
- 1
What was wrong
The shed had become hard to secure. The homeowner was thinking of buying a new padlock, but the hasp was loose too.
- 2
What I found
I checked the padlock, hasp and the timber around it together. The fixing points were sound enough for a new hasp and staple.
- 3
What I did
I supplied and fitted a weather-resistant padlock and a replacement hasp and staple, then checked them with the doors closed.
- 4
The result
A shed that locks properly, without replacing the doors.

Check the hinges, fittings and wood as well as the padlock. A stronger lock can’t make up for rotten or damaged fixing points.
