Window lock repair and mechanism replacement
A window that won’t lock properly may have a problem with the handle, its connection or the locking mechanism.

Window mechanism£90–£120
One window mechanism, supplied and fitted. Handle-only work is quoted individually.
No call-out fee. Same price day or night. Cost agreed before I start.
Tell me what moves and what doesn’t, and whether the window can close. I’ll check what’s needed before you agree to the work.
Handle or mechanism?
The handle is the part you use; the mechanism operates the locking points. A handle that turns without securing the window doesn’t, on its own, tell you which part needs replacing. I’ll inspect the window and discuss the appropriate repair.
If it turns out to be a handle-only job, I’ll quote for that separately. The £90–£120 range is for a mechanism replacement, not a fixed price for every window fault.
A window that is hard to close
Tell me whether the window catches, whether the handle reaches its usual position, and whether the problem appeared suddenly. Don’t force a handle to pull a window into place. If you cannot secure it, ring rather than leaving a routine booking request.
Will adding another lock make it more secure?
That depends on the window, its existing fittings and how it needs to be used. A lock on a damaged or poorly closing window doesn’t resolve the underlying fault. Extra hardware must also suit any escape requirements. I’ll discuss the specific window rather than promise that a particular lock makes it burglar-proof.
If you’re working from an insurance requirement, have the wording available. More about checking insurance requirements.

I cover Stoke-on-Trent and the Staffordshire Moorlands from Forsbrook. There is no call-out fee or out-of-hours price increase. I agree the scope and cost before starting, and the work has a 12-month guarantee covering parts and labour.
