How much does a locksmith cost? My prices and what each job includes
These are my usual prices for domestic locksmith work in Stoke-on-Trent and the Moorlands. They’re final customer prices, including any applicable VAT.
Google reviews5.0★★★★★Based on 55 reviewsEvery price, and what it covers
Final customer prices, including any applicable VAT. Unchanged at night, weekends and bank holidays.
I keep a record of what customers actually pay. All 16 of my recent recorded jobs came in within these published prices. You’ll find them, written up, on each job’s page.
| Job | Usual price | What that covers |
|---|---|---|
| Lockout | £65day or night | Gaining entry. Further work or replacement keys or locks is assessed and agreed separately. |
| Snapped key, existing lock saved | Usually £65 | A typical reference, not a fixed tariff. Assessment, complexity, time and parts set the agreed quote; no automatic extra extraction fee. |
| Door alignment | £45–£65 | Adjusting hinges and keeps, without replacement parts. |
| Standard ERA euro-cylinder change | £80–£110 | Cylinder, supplied keys and fitting, on a working door that opens normally and needs no adjustment. |
| Apecs 3-star cylinder change | £110–£140 | The same straightforward cylinder change with a suitable Apecs 3-star cylinder, selected for the fitting. |
| 2-star security handle pair | £90–£120 | Suitable inside and outside handles, supplied and fitted. Cylinder or gearbox work is separate. |
| Window mechanism | £90–£120 | One window mechanism, supplied and fitted. Handle-only work is quoted individually. |
| Door gearbox | £150–£180 | One door, supplied and fitted, including opening it if it is stuck shut when I arrive. |
| Full multipoint mechanism | £180–£250 | Supplied and fitted, including opening the door if it is stuck shut when I arrive. |
| BS3621 mortice, like for like | From £65 | The lock and fitting. Other work is assessed separately. |
| Key safe | £110–£140 | Supplied and fitted. The model, position and use decide the final quote. |
How that compares
Typical emergency locksmith work in Stoke-on-Trent: £105–£179, average £135 (Checkatrade, checked October 2026). My lockout price is £65, any hour.
What affects the price
- The type and security grade of lock you want
- Whether the door has dropped or is jammed shut
- Whether parts need replacing, or just adjusting
- How many locks or doors are involved
Want an idea of the price first?
Send a photo of the lock or handle and tell me what it’s doing. I’ll give you an estimate, then confirm the work and the total when I’ve checked the door, before I start.
WhatsApp a photo- £0No call-out fee
- £0No distance, parking or wasted-journey charge
- ✓Scope and cost agreed before I start
There is no call-out fee or higher night, weekend or bank-holiday rate. For repairs, I assess what’s needed and agree the scope and total cost before I start.
Why I publish my prices
A lot of locksmiths keep their prices off their websites. The trade has a reputation for low prices quoted on the phone that grow once someone is at your door, when you’re stressed and just want it sorted. I don’t think that’s a fair way to treat anyone, so my usual prices are all on this page.
When you ring, you get me: no call centre, no subcontractor. I’ll tell you what the job usually costs, check the door when I arrive, and agree the total with you before I start. My prices include the parts and fitting, and there’s no call-out fee, so nothing is added at the door.
If anything about a price is unclear, ask me on the phone. I’d rather explain it twice than have you surprised. Brett
Questions about locksmith prices
Short answers here. Ring if yours isn’t covered.
What can change the quote?
The type of lock, the condition of the door, replacement parts and the complexity and time involved all matter. I’ll explain the recommended work and agree the price with you. If you want a different product specification, we discuss that before it is fitted.
If a gearbox or full mechanism replacement is needed on a door that is already stuck shut when I arrive, opening it is included in the replacement job. It isn’t automatically a £65 lockout charge added to the repair range.
Are small fixes free?
Some very small fixes may carry no charge. It depends on what is involved and how long it takes; needing no parts doesn’t automatically make a job free. A proper alignment can take work even when nothing is replaced. I’ll assess it and agree the scope and cost first.
What if a snapped key means a new lock?
I look at the condition of the lock and what is needed. A simple extraction can cost less than a complicated repair with replacement parts. I’ll explain the total before starting; the table isn’t an instruction to add one job price to another.
Any other charges or a guarantee?
No call-out fee, distance charge, parking charge or wasted-journey charge. The same pricing applies at night, at weekends and on bank holidays. My work carries a 12-month guarantee covering parts and labour.
