What I found. There was damage to the locking strip beyond the central gearbox. A gearbox-only repair would have left faults elsewhere in the mechanism.

BS3621 mortice lock fitted
What I found. The existing fitting and the door were in good condition, so a BS3621 mortice lock could go in like for like, without replacing the door or major alterations.
The result. A working lock to the specified standard, and the homeowner knew exactly which product had been fitted.

Replacing a lock without replacing everything

If the door works normally and you need fresh keys, a standard ERA euro-cylinder change is usually £80–£110, including supplied keys and fitting. If the handle spins or the door won’t lock, the cylinder may not be the faulty part.

I can discuss gearbox repairs and full mechanism replacements. Those jobs usually cost £150–£180 and £180–£250 respectively, supplied and fitted, including opening a door that is initially stuck shut.

Arranging residential property work

If you’re organising a repair for a relative or a residential letting, tell me who can provide access and authorise the work. Planned-visit requests are confirmed directly; they don’t reserve an appointment automatically.

For a lockout or a home you cannot secure, ring instead. There is no call-out fee or higher out-of-hours rate. My work has a 12-month guarantee covering parts and labour.

Great service! I rang Bret to give me a quote on a lock that my key kept getting stuck in, he said he would be about an hour he kept me up to date with a message saying 30 minutes away within the hour he was here. If ever you have any issues with your door or locks at home, Brett is your man for the job. Honest , reliable and trustworthy and he completed a top top job. The door has never opened or closed so well.
