Choosing a cylinder that fits properly
The cylinder is the part the key goes into. Its size, position and compatibility with the handles matter as well as the security features on the box. I’ll check the existing fitting and discuss a suitable replacement before you choose.
My usual £110–£140 range assumes a uPVC door that opens normally, with a working mechanism and no adjustment needed. A jammed door, failed gearbox or alignment problem is assessed as additional work, with the total agreed before I start.

What does “anti-snap” mean?
Anti-snap cylinders are designed to resist a particular form of attack on the cylinder. They don’t make the whole door impossible to break into. The handles, door, frame and other access points still matter.
I discuss the specification of the actual cylinder and any protective hardware being fitted. A general description such as “anti-snap” is not a substitute for checking the exact product’s rating.
Will it meet my insurance requirements?
That depends on your policy and the fitted lock. Have the insurer’s wording available when you call. I’ll help identify the existing lock and discuss any change needed; I don’t promise that one cylinder satisfies every policy. Read about insurance lock checks.
Do I also need new handles?
Not automatically. The appropriate combination depends on the door and existing hardware. Replacement security handle pairs are usually £90–£120 supplied and fitted where suitable. I’ll explain what you’re being quoted for rather than adding an upgrade you haven’t agreed to.
