What I found. I checked the padlock, hasp and the timber around it together. The fixing points were sound enough for a new hasp and staple.

If a handle has gone loose, a key won’t turn or you can’t get into the house, describe the problem when you call. I’m Brett at Moorlands Locksmiths, and I’ll discuss the work and agree its cost before starting.

When the handle spins

It may be a connection, spring or gearbox problem. You don’t need to diagnose it before calling, and it doesn’t automatically mean buying a full mechanism. I inspect the door and explain which repair is appropriate.

A gearbox replacement is usually £150–£180 supplied and fitted. A full mechanism is usually £180–£250. Both include opening a door that is stuck shut when I arrive.

Lost keys or a planned lock change

If you cannot get in, call about a lockout. Entry costs £65; any further work is discussed separately. For a planned change of keys, standard cylinder changes are usually £80–£110 under the working-door conditions on that page.

Arrangements and guarantee

Prices are unchanged at night, weekends and bank holidays. There’s no call-out or distance charge, and my work has a 12-month parts-and-labour guarantee.

Great service! I rang Bret to give me a quote on a lock that my key kept getting stuck in, he said he would be about an hour he kept me up to date with a message saying 30 minutes away within the hour he was here. If ever you have any issues with your door or locks at home, Brett is your man for the job. Honest , reliable and trustworthy and he completed a top top job. The door has never opened or closed so well.
