uPVC door gearbox replacement in Stoke-on-Trent

The gearbox is the central part of a multipoint lock, behind the handle. It transfers the movement from the handle to the locking mechanism. It’s different from the cylinder where you put the key, and from the full metal strip running along the door edge.

That distinction matters when you’re comparing quotes. A gearbox-only repair and a full mechanism replacement are different jobs. I’ll explain which part has failed and what the replacement involves.

A loose connection, screw or spring may be repairable without a new gearbox. Door alignment also matters: forcing a door that doesn’t line up puts strain on its parts. I inspect what’s happening rather than ordering a replacement from a description alone.

Tell me whether the handle returns to its usual position, whether the key turns, and whether you can open and close the door. You don’t need to take the lock apart before calling.

The usual £150–£180 range covers a replacement gearbox supplied and fitted to one door. If the door is stuck shut when I arrive, opening it is included. I assess the part and work needed and agree the total with you before starting.
