Locks and key safes for holiday lets and apartments
All advice guidesMake key collection straightforward
A key safe can help with guest arrivals, but choose it around the property and the people using it. Its location needs to be practical and the installation suitable for the wall and product. My usual supplied-and-fitted range is £110–£140.
Decide who will manage access details and review them when guests or contractors change. Don’t include codes in a general booking message or public photographs. Read about key-safe fitting.
A lock that is becoming difficult
A stiff lock is easier to discuss before a guest cannot open the door. Tell me whether the issue is with the key, handle or the way the door closes. I can assess the fault; it may need adjustment or a replacement part rather than a complete new lock system.
If guests cannot get in, call about the access problem. A planned-visit request is not an emergency response route.
Lost keys and planned changes
If keys are missing and you need control of a new set, we can discuss a cylinder change. Most straightforward standard ERA euro-cylinder changes are £80–£110 including supplied keys and fitting, on a working door that opens normally and needs no adjustment.
Tell me about any insurer, fire-safety or building-management requirements before choosing hardware. A domestic lock change is not a fire-door inspection or a compliance certificate.
Arrange the work around access
Give me the property location, what needs attention and when someone can provide access. I will confirm arrangements with you. There’s no call-out fee or additional out-of-hours rate, and my work carries a 12-month parts-and-labour guarantee.

Planned cylinder change for a holiday let in Stone
A real job from my records, start to finish. No names or addresses; the price is what the customer paid.
- 1
What was wanted
The owner wanted new front-door keys before the next booking, so we planned a visit for when the property was free.
- 2
What I found
The door opened normally, and the handles and multipoint mechanism were working correctly.
- 3
What I did
I supplied and fitted a standard ERA euro cylinder, the part that decides which keys open the door, and tested the new keys from both sides with the owner.
- 4
The result
The old keys no longer worked, and the working door hardware was kept.

Plan how guests and cleaners will get and return keys. A lock change works best as part of a clear access arrangement.
