Start with the person who will use it

I fit key safes for older customers and their relatives, and for holiday-let owners arranging guest access. The right position should work for the people using it: being discreet is no help if the intended user can’t comfortably reach or operate it.

Talk through the arrangement with the person whose home it is. Decide who needs access and how they will receive the code. Don’t send an access code through a general website enquiry or include it in a job photograph.

Choosing the position and model

Where suitable, I prefer a position out of sight from the road, fixed into brick and accessible to the intended users. The actual wall, safe and fitting instructions determine what is possible. We’ll agree the position rather than assume there is one correct place on every home.

I have fitted Supra and Burton products. The exact choice depends on the application. If an insurer or care provider specifies a standard or model, have that requirement ready so it can be checked against the particular product.

Questions people ask

Short answers here. Ring if yours isn’t covered.

What does the price cover?

The usual £110–£140 range is supplied and fitted. Product choice and the complexity and position of the installation affect the quote. I’ll agree the scope and total before starting. There is no call-out fee or additional out-of-hours rate, and my work has a 12-month parts-and-labour guarantee.

Is a key safe the right answer for everyone?

Not necessarily. Think about who will manage the code, who can operate the safe and how access will be reviewed when arrangements change. Other home-access considerations may be relevant too.
