Home/Lock repair after a break-in
Lock repair after a break-in
If a break-in has left your lock damaged, call me to discuss what needs repairing and whether the door can be secured.
Google reviews5.0★★★★★Based on 55 reviewsWhat it usually costs
Replacement cylinder, if that’s what’s needed£80–£110
Cylinder, supplied keys and fitting, on a working door that opens normally and needs no adjustment.
No call-out fee. Same price day or night. Cost agreed before I start.
I cover domestic properties in Stoke-on-Trent and the Moorlands from Forsbrook. I’ll assess the damage and agree the work and price with you before starting.
Deal with immediate safety first
If someone is in danger or a crime is still happening, call 999. Follow any police instructions about preserving evidence before arranging repairs. When it’s appropriate to attend, tell me whether the damage is to the lock, the door, the frame or more than one part.
I repair and replace locks; I don’t provide boarding up. If there is broken glazing or structural damage to the door or frame, say so when you ring so we can discuss the limits of what I can do.
Repairing the lock and deciding on a replacement
The repair depends on what has been damaged. A cylinder change, a gearbox replacement and a full locking mechanism are different jobs. I won’t give you one fixed burglary-repair price without knowing what is involved.
The price guide sets out my usual fitted prices. A straightforward standard euro-cylinder replacement is normally £80–£110, but that range assumes the door opens and its mechanism works. Damage from a break-in may need other work.
Considering a security upgrade
Once the immediate damage is understood, we can discuss a suitable anti-snap cylinder or security handles. An upgrade must suit the door; it isn’t a guarantee against every type of break-in.
Have any relevant insurer’s requirements available. I’ll explain the fitting options, while the insurer determines what your policy covers.
There is no call-out fee or additional night, weekend or bank-holiday rate. My work is guaranteed for 12 months, including parts and labour.
Call Brett on 07456 807068 and tell me your location and whether the property is currently secure.
Which part has failed?
You don’t need to know before you ring. Tell me what the key and handle are doing; these are the usual prices for each part, and I check the door before recommending anything.

Damaged lock after a break-in in Leek: secured with a new cylinder
A real job from my records, start to finish. No names or addresses; the price is what the customer paid.

What was wrong
After a break-in, the homeowner needed the front-door lock assessed and the house secured again, and wanted to know which parts needed replacing.
- 2
What I found
The cylinder was damaged. The handles, the rest of the locking mechanism and the door itself were all still sound.
- 3
What I did
We agreed the work and the price first. Then I fitted a suitable Apecs 3-star replacement cylinder.
- 4
The result
The door locked again, with new keys and the usable hardware kept.
