What is the handle doing?
Tell me whether it feels loose, drops without returning or turns without moving the latch. Also say whether the door opens, closes and locks. You don’t need to work out whether the handle or the gearbox has failed.
I check the parts and consider a smaller screw or spring fix where that will provide a sound repair. I also look at alignment, because forcing a door can put strain on the handles.
What the replacement price includes
The typical £90–£120 range covers a suitable inside-and-outside pair, removal of the old handles, fitting and checks of the handle, latch and locking operation. The pair must match the door and mechanism.
A cylinder change or gearbox repair is separate work. If that is needed, I’ll explain why and agree the full scope and cost before starting. There is no extra night, weekend or bank-holiday rate.
Security handles and the rest of the door
The rating belongs to the specified handle set. It doesn’t, on its own, certify the whole door or guarantee that an insurance policy’s requirements are met. I’ll discuss a suitable combination of handles and cylinder for the door you’re using.

Does a spinning handle mean a new gearbox?
It is one possibility, not a diagnosis. If the gearbox is the problem, replacement usually costs £150–£180 supplied and fitted, including opening a door that is initially stuck shut.
